WD2000BB "Security Enable"

November 20th, 2008, 9:08

Hi to all, i'm new on this forum.

I have just find a western digital caviar wd2000bb in my "broken and out of warranty :|" dvd recorder panasonic, but the drive still work correctly, the smart information are ok, but i have a problem, a BIG problem, when i try to use the western digital diagnostic tool (dos or win), there is a message saying: "Security Enable", so i can't delete partition, i can't write zero to the drive, i can't do anything to the drive. Windows find the drive as a disk drive, but it can't format, even paragon partion manager can't see it.

What can i do? there is some procedure?

Thanks to all!

P.S.

I'm sorry for my bad english

Disk sounds like it is locked with a ATA password.

if your line is capable of handling at least 3 MBPS and has teleportation capabilities which is able to transport several trillion atoms which make up a pc3000 card or Salvation Data HDD Doctor Suite then yes. Download it.

if not, do what we do and pay for the hardware.

ATA password is stored in Service Area of disk, which is generally not accessible without expensive professional tools. Professioanl tools you could use, while preserving user data is:

PC3000
Salvation Data tools
MHDD if password known
AFF Repair Station

There may be others, but without professional assistance your data will not be accessible.

As I assume from your OP the data is not important?

If the drive is LOCKED with some effort is possible, if it is FROZEN (more likely) it's tougher an need pro equipment. Anyway why spend 20/30 $ or EUR for this when you can get a new drive for about the same ?
