HELP my 500Gb Maxtor damaged

Hi every body Im new here so please help me my 6 years data in danger
I have a Maxtor 500Gb HDD STM3500320AS Dimonmax 22 yesterday it make some smoke I dont know why may be PSU or bad power connection !!
I discovered that the diode (if Im right) is damaged , see pic
so can anyone here gimme information about that diod or have PCB datasheet so I can replace it or is there any other solutions ?

your picture is very difficult to see but if that is the TVS (and I think it probably is) then you should be able to get your drive running by removing it.

another thing after damage I try to connect my HDD and the red power cable burned and PSU didnt cut power down untill I do that !!! (see pic) is that normal ?

The answer to your next question: Yes, just remove it.

Replace the PS. It's toasted one drive. The MB is next. Looks like the overcurrent has failed, or you likely have a CHEAP PS.

Right, the TVS is shorted to ground. A good power supply would shut right off or even refuse to turn on, but yours dumped enough current through the shorted line that it melted the wiring.

Don't use that power supply anymore.

yes my PSU is 600W and cheap .. do you mean that my dont have a shortcut protection
wait a sec now I can understand what happened , a short circ in the sata aux power adapter happened but my ****** idiot PSU didnt cut the power down so the diode burned and cut the power power from HDD
I MUST REPLACE MY PSU TOMOROW OR ....

the TVS protects more important circuitry. while your drive will work okay without it, provided it did its job correctly and protected everything else, running without it means running without protection.

Also, a 600W CHEAP supply is not nearly as good as a 350W from a respectable manufacturer. Not only do the cheapie manufacturers screw your motherboard and drives by saving $0.15 in parts on short circuit protection, use tiny heatsinks while relying on cheap fans with sleeve bearings, use the absolute cheapest components, and then overrate them, they tend to just make up the wattage rating. I've seen 300W supplies with a 550W sticker over the old label, and the supply didn't even look like a 300W inside. The PS is not the component you cheap out on. Do some research, and you'll find a good one.

And it goes without saying... Fix the PS first, then work on the drive.

but please I still want to know the reference ( amp and volt) of the damaged TVS its burned and I cant read the spec.
BTW next to the damaged TVS there is another TVS with printed "KVP 81A" , could this help ?

there's no need for that as your drive is already damaged; you should pull the TVS, use your drive long enough to get your data off, and then throw your drive away

(my HDD is NEW and I dont want to buy a new one for now plz am planing to buy a new asus mobo , not the hdd time now:( )
I think after changing my PSU I can continue using the drive without TVS a Short Circuit don't happen always and if it happen the new PSU with short power protection will protect the dive and cut the power, am I right

Should you re-use the old drive? I wouldn't. If you do, at least get a junk drive, and move the proper TVS (5V or 12V). Any drive with a TVS will do. If you're going to completely cut corners and use the drive as-is, next time you'll be screwed. You COULD get by with it, but these cut corners decrease your odds. Considering you're likely cutting corners elsewhere, odds are good you'll be back here soon. Then, somebody's going to laugh at you.

so please help me to change the damaged TVS how can I know the right TVS to change ???

I have lot of old HDD can I change the TVS with one from any other HDD ???!!!

Based on which wire melted that should be your 5V tvs.

It's not like we're talking about a ROM chip or something. If it's the 5V TVS, you need a replacement 5V TVS. With a few minutes with a good set of eyes, and/or a multimeter, you should be able to tell. Hint: The 5V TVS is across the incoming +5V line.
