Good morning,

I have burned at least one component of PCB at my Seagate 7200.9.

HDD:
Barracuda 7200.9
ST3160812AS
firmware 2AA

It finished with unstick of one component at PCB ... It is two pin component. I'm not sure sure if it is just resistor or some base semiconducter component.

Could you help me, please. Is it possible to change whole PCB of the similar HDD without any configuration. Doesn't have the "PCB" any persisted configuration data (FLASH memory)?

Do you have any experience with this kind of HDD? I can not find out the same type of hdd. For eg. is it possible to use PCB from ST3160212A?

Thank you
Zbynek

Why don't you do a keyword search on this forum and find out? There are dozens of posts on this subject . . .

Trans Voltage Suppressor

It basically sustains damage to prevent other more important components from becoming damaged. If you want to know more, search the forum. there is plenty of info here, you just need to dig deep for it!

@ Jono-ats: Now don't get me wrong I really understand the need to guide people to finding simple answers themselves. I really understand how to use the search feature, possibly better than you do yourself, but with that said it comes down to ease of use and friendly help on any boards. Why isn't there a sticky about common glossary terms if this is used so frequently in the newbs section? I didn't see it there perhaps you can guide me to it. Other than that your delivery = .|..

@hddguy: Now this is a great response to a newb i.e. heres the answer and perhaps dig deeper 10/10 Jono-ats see how this guy handles newbs?

To be fair to jono-ats every day there is another newbie asking what a TVS is, or enquiring about specific components on their damaged HDD.

Some gurus jsut dont like repeating the same answer to different people. :D
