BlackST,

Impressive Remarks!

The real pros will survive and grow. I agree that most cases to pros' hand are the physical problems.

If it is only deleted files, format, clone. PC users can download some software from internet at the cost of XX bucks.

That makes sense the the Data Recovery will be luxury. Maybe it is same like the top surgeon who only appear at the last second when the death put their hand on the patient?

So we can take these as example:

Logical Data Recovery Program----Drug Store
Bad Sectors/FW courrutpion can be handled at-----Clinic
Physical Damage Recovery should go to-----Hospital

That sounds very effective and reasonable.

Let's make the network!

Regards

Laura

Listen : 80% and up of the problems on the drives are physical. So what? Common practitioners can give you a pill and the cost is low, a real skilled surgeon can fix something more complicated but the cost is MUCH HIGHER. Period. I'm not afraid of the crisis, it has beneficial effects on the "desperados" that enter a market spoiling it with low prices and few results. Periodical crisis do annihilate these morons, so there will be more space for real pros to grow up, it's only a matter of time. As I said some days ago, don't worry... the "bandidos" work of us. Sit and wait. Offer different services. Differentiate yourself from the mass and you'll be rewarded. But don't fall into temptation of cutting down prices. DR is a luxury, and luxury market does not and must not encounter crisis. It depends on what you want. This is my 2 cent.

Oh... i forgot... PERIOD.

Hi Laura,
You should know, Doomer is an "Artful" surgeon.

Take thousands of 5 year old boys - play russian roulette.
Winner gets $10m each time he survives. many will die.
handful will get rich after time.
Handful of winners will think they smart - they just lucky.

I think the bigger DR companies that charge $2000 for recoveries will hurt. We will get their business becasue people will not want to pay this high price, so I expect us all to have a good year!

Then prepare to do 50$ recoveries, and when the customers will demand for 40,30, and then 10, you'll give them the key of your office. And you'll be the victim.

Got a call from a customer with an obvious seized 1tb seagate today. They heard my price and then sent it to some other place for $199. I almost laughed on the phone but kept my composure...

DR companies rely on STUPID and LAZY customers , only!
The HDD's prices are so low that you have to be extremely stupid or lazy not to have backups of your important files...
The crisis will reduce the number of such customers, no doubt!

Hi Falther,

Good idea.

Well, due to the recession, so DR business should do:

1) Cut down the price;
2) Expand business such as Backup, PC/Laptop Repair,Virus Clean and etc.... However, BlackST said DR is luxury, maybe we should stand out from the mass and keep our DR dignity? Well, a real hard decision to make;
3) The last but not least important, our business mode; As DR alwasy keep waiting calls and wait clients to send their drives, mostly individuals who get panic; a serisou question: Can we provide On-site DR Service for emergency and for some special institute?

So, if it is the time for us to go outside the lab and put down our unrealistic self-complacence, put our hands on the dead drives and bring life back to them?

It's just my humble Opinion.

Regards

Laura

The reasonable price is the point. Some of the established DR companies
will have to rethink their price policy - charging $/€ 2,000.- for a short
and easy work is neither justified nor ethical.

There are now three correctives for such prices:
1. cheaper and easier tools (like those from SD)
2. knowledge is spread (internet video like - "how to change hdd heads")
3. present economy

(The 4th would be ethical criteria, but I just learned from a "collegue", that
the new BMW is more important).

So we should say, Laziness is the source of all innovation and renovation? Yes, lazy men make us have more things to do and ensure us a happier life. But we also ensure lazy men can enjoy a happy and easy life.

I am one of the lazy ppl.

:D

If necessay I go where the problem is with some of the necessary equipment, but don't want nobody in whem I'm working. There are some situations where the drive can't move outside the place where it is, but there's a limit to everything.

P.S: why lower the prices ? I haven't seen Bulgari or Rolex or BMW or Jaguar doing special offers or discount or something similar to season sale... And they are still alive. Yes, even BMW has base model, so why can't we ? Base service = base price but with same quality. Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y. This is the keyword.
