I accidentally shorted the TVS on a couple of HDDs and found this site that showed me how to temporarily locate and cut the TVS to retrieve the data onto a brand new drive. I didn't realize that the power supply I was using was damaging the drives so I kept using it on different drives trying to figure out why the drives weren't working..... Long story short I have one WD 3.5" that I can't find the TVS.....

You may be able to use a scanner.

Anyway, if this is your board, then it has no TVS diodes:

Location D3 was probably reserved for a 5V TVS diode.

BTW, which supply rail was affected, +5V or +12V? I'm assuming it was the +5V supply, since your laptop drive wouldn't use the +12V rail.

Am I just S.O.L. on these two drives then? On the laptop drive I see a D1 and D2.... but those aren't near the the power connectors like the 3.5" drive that I fixed.

Oh I almost forgot, yes that is the board.

I don't know if a straight board swap will work, but you could at least measure the various voltages, if only as a post mortem exercise.

As for your 2.5" drive, if you can't provide a photo, then how about a model number, or a Google image?

Worse still, there is no chip at U12, which means that the "adaptive" data are internal to the Marvell MCU.

If you have a multimeter, you could always measure the voltages at the +3.3V and +1.2V test points.

It depends on who services the drive to get data even with (= without) totally blown PCB...
