WD4000YS heads

January 30th, 2009, 12:26

I'm looking for a headstack donor to a WD4000YS-01MPB0 DCM:HBACAJAHB.
So far found three WD4000YS-01MPB0 with DCMs: HBACAJAA, HCACAJAH, HBHCAHAH.
Also some 01MPB1's, DCM not known yet (waiting for reply).

Any idea if any of these could be worth trying or should I keep searching?

One page I googled breifle mentioned that possibly other WD4000 models with matching
DCM could work. Worth looking into?

Have you swapped heads on one of these drives before?

They are a tough drive to work with and I advise caution if you value your data.

Yes, agree.

These are one of the worst.

Yes I understand these drives are very tricky. Oh, I should clarify - I'm not a DR expert, I know
enough to NOT try this myself, that's why I sent the disk to a DR lab. :-) Just trying to make myself
useful by looking out for possible donors. I guess in this case the ones with 5th/6th letter 'AJ' might be
of interest, now that I've read a bit...

Maybe I should have posted a request in the buy/sell forum instead - I suppose I could write one now
but that would be kind of double-posting...
