With actuator lock removed, stuck locked or unlocked?

If the actuator lock is removed on a Hitachi Travelstar, is the drive stuck in the locked or unlocked position? When I opened the case, it fell out. I'm trying to figure out whether to put it back in or just leave it out.

also, don't open the drive when you are upside down. :lol:
