unlock HITACHI HTS54xG9AT with firware update

January 28th, 2009, 9:57

Hi.
I need to unlock a Hitachi drive thats is supported in the firmware update cd in the downloads section. It doesn't update because (I think) it has the current firmware is up to date. Can I force the update? And with this, it will unlock?
Very greetings.

Rodrigo

No, you hdd isn't a mobile phone or DVD-ROM.

You cannot simply "flash" the fw, you need specialist equipment costing $1,000's

@PCIMAGE... does A-FF do the job ? If supported, maybe he can try online unlock, it's gonna cost about 50 / 70$ if I recall right.

Unless $50 / 70 are too much. :cry:

Not unless he is able to download 'probes'.

@BlackST..

HDD Spaz is right, "probes" are required for unlocking with PC3000.

Or there is another method using Factory mode, but that involves removing the PCB and other stuff.

Either way it's certainly gonna cost much more than the $40-50 a new drive would cost.

Never used any 'probes' to remove password from such drives
That's why commercial products are bad - they put your mind into the box and you stop thinking

@Doomer...

Yes, I must admit we don't get many password locked Hitachi HDD's in nowadays, and we did used to use probes with PC3000 to unlock them. Now we simply overwrite the SA-A copy of the security module with the factory one from SA-C. This of course involves changing the NVRAM on the PCB to make it into "Safe Mode". :-)
