Very good sir!

Its free to encourage people/companies to join to give it more and more credibility.

I will give you an example: I have just filled in a tender. One of the questions was 'What organisations are you a member of?'

Join, use the branding and benefit!

Regards,

Simon

To date, there are 31 members in 6 countries.

I intend to put a directory up on the site in the near future - giving free links to the companies that are members.

From little acorns......

On the bottom of the homepage:

"There will be a joining fee and annual subscription, however, there will be a committee to justify membership of the Association, to ensure that companies or individuals cannot just buy their title and membership."

Sorry but I still think that only market can judge what I do. Having a XXXX sticker or logo doesn't change anything. Instead of advertise an association and ask money to do it GIVE AT LEAST A REASON TO DO IT. And make things transparent like committee mebers, their titles, who own the company, plans, etc.

Fair enough comments.

The reason for the association is that like a lot of people here are high quality data recovery engineers and companies. I am sure that most, if not all have received hard drives from clients that have sent them through to other companies who have actually caused more damage? I had an issue with the amount of these jobs we got. I wondered how something could be done. The only suggestion I had was to set up the IPDRA. This way, with the backing of the association, the client would have a better idea of who to send the data to.

There, preaching over, I hope you give it a chance. Join up, the worst it could do is to take up a tiny bit of your website?

All the best,

Simon

PS I will change the text at the bottom of the page tomorrow.

I still don't get where the problem is. End users are 90% troublemakers, and fraudulent DR companies came out because they sniffed $$$. End users and little enterprise are irresistibly attracted by websites, internet bullshit and low prices claims - quality is not in their mind. In a nutshell, shit attracts flies and there's nothing you can do. I know ISO CERTIFIED companies with poor service (stopped buying anything from them) - the ISO refers only to their internal quality procedure. I can get fully ISO Certified and be a total dick, just have to pay cert and fulfill the requirements, make damage with all quality requirement and still have a good 'apparent' reputation. And customer satisfaction doesn't count, neither can be a trustable parameter. This world is more complex than we think !

Fair enough comment. What are we to do though? Just give up?

I deal with lots of clients who DO send their data to 'flashy website' companies. Who do claim to have a technical superiority, however they dont?

I agree that ISO doesnt mean much, its just a tick in a box excercise, unless you use it correctly.

Customer satisfaction is great, but you still need that original customer. The http://www.IPDRA.orgcould be just that?

Good Work . This is definately a good step to have some kind of association. Keep it up disklab. You can ignore BlackST for his pessimistic attitude which is not constructive & helpful. He seems to be from some other planet may be superguru there & rest of us earth dwellings. My best wishes.
With Warm Regards

Hi Disklabs - Interesting idea. I think the "committee" should send three "broken" drives to individuals with known problems and ask that they recover a specific file. If they get 2 out of 3, they are a member. You could have the existing members(after they have proven themselves capable) rotate the responsibility of creating the "broken " drives and shipping them out. This may be a better test than the self-proclaimed expertise.

Just a thought.

@chipsang,
Maybe it's pessimistic - we better say realistic! , but : 22 posts here against 1400 and more do make a difference ? Yes. How much do you have invested in r&d lately? P.s. India is maybe a potential market in quantity, but in quality terms even you, if you do DR, have to face everyday back bedroom DR companies that do 10$ 'jobs' (when they succeed)- a fortune in your country! - without any quality assurance and without any rule, not talking about taxes and dues. This is not healthy competition, however it doesn't bother. Nothing personal, but you should be the last person to criticize me. I pointed out some important aspects while you were just reading. If you didn't agree with a point or two, you could discuss. Too easy just clap hands and show simple dislike to a single person : me. I know my stuff, you your.
