I have searched around and it seems like there are very few producers of these tools in the world.

I had a company build us a clean box which we will be using for DR work. Now I just need some platter extractor tools.

I emailed SalvationDATA, and the HDRC company for pricing and more information.

What other vendors are out there for quality disk recovery tool products? Should I have a local machine shop make my own?

sounds like a great idea. See if you can have them made. Always better make yourself.

I have a laser guided platter tool which uses 500 Gigawatts and weighs in at 5000 KG's that Duncan made for me

I have one too, I have special edition - it's championship white and a built in radio.

The best vendor is your imagination and creativity. Most available commercial platter tools are poorly executed in my opinion. Duncan makes the best laser guided missiles. It helps me cut out my competition!

If you can make your own, it is the best option.

make your own.... Simple as that... Better still design your own and have a workshop make it for you..

"make your own " = design it , then if you can handle CNC machining make it, or give the plans to a workshop with the necessary equipment.... simple as that

Making your own, sounds easy But...

It is very difficult to design a WORKING one. You have to spend money and time.
It took about 3 years for me to make a set that really works for up to 3 platters.It has fixed base
and I change the leads or central holder for each brand of HDD.

We're struggling to get the "fingers" perfected, and it's taking a lot longer than originally anticipated.

I am not prepared to ship this until I am entirely happy with it; I don't want a single customer to be able to find any fundamental flaw with the system.

It's easy to machine a tool that will work with one specific brand and model - but engineering something that will work with *all* drives currently manufactured, with a little future-proofing thrown in is another story altogether.

Nearly there - despite having been saying that for months.

Do the spring-form cake pan designs work? I saw a set at a friend's DR shop. I haven't tried them yet....
