Opened and Scratched Hard Drive

Hello there guys.

I would like to ask a question regarding an opened Hard Drive.

Assuming that a Hard Drive is opened in a normal environment and thus particles or anything get stuck on it, can a technician in a specialized lab clean the disk from them?

Secondly assuming that the disk has a round scratch on it, can the data not placed in that specific scratched area be recovered?

I would like to answer your questions regarding an opened Hard Drive

Assuming that for normal environment you mean a room and the drive was quickly closed, a technician in a specialized lab can decontaminate the surface. If for normal environment is intended a normally dusty garage or a kitchen while preparing dinner things get tougher.

Secondly assuming that the disk has a round scratch on it, if the scratch is in the middle of the service area, it will be almost impossible to make the disk start again and get data back. If not, when a new head reaches the scratched area it will be destroyed, imagine yourself...

So said, I have ALSO the answer for the UN-ASKED questions :

1) IF the drive was a WD, the biggest mistake was opening the top cover to see what happened inside. Lost alignment. Bingo !
2) Head crash and subsequent media damage means with great probability the drive experienced shock so maybe there is other damage.
3) How much will it cost to recover data ? Too much.

The scratch is in the middle of the disk. Is there no way that any data from the other part of the surface can be recovered?
Fixing the HDD is not part of the concern but only the data recovery from there to another format.

There is always a way, but it is not a way that average person would accept. Get professional help, otherwise forget about your data.

imagine about the COST specially for Sparepart...... and then calculate how many head will be dead on the scrtached ares. and HOW MUCH WILL YOU PAY for such recovery case... Maybe not USD 1000 maybe more and more
