Hi guys, just had a Linksys NAS NSS4000 come in. It a 4 disk raid 5. Trying to rebuild manually. All 4 disks are ok.

Anyone know the default block size for this array? There are no files larger than 30 KB so I'm thinking its either 32 KB but more likely 64 KB. If you have worked on one of these, please pm me.

Actually the first one to PM me the default settings (disk rotation, order, block size and staring sector) to rebuild this array will receive a nice cheque in the post 8)

This is quite urgent, at the moment i'm using trial and error to rule out different combinations but it's taking its time.

Looks like its just going to depend on how it was configured... the encryption might be a problem though.

The data is not encrypted. Managed to recover some JPGS. The file system is XFS. Its a RAID 5. The Unit is reporting one disk as failed and the other disks are reported as no volume.

Does it have one all drive 1 Ext3 partition at the beginning?

You may work with a usefull part from each drives, use the WinHex to cut this part from each drives to a image-files. Than, build a raid5 ( for example in UFS Explorer Professional). Which type of drives rotation (backward Parity ,backward Dynamic Parity, Forward Parity) you may just select, it different in differents NAS. What block size, you may it select too, it often is 128Kb.

Than try to scan partition, ufs Explorer work with (xFS) very good.

We rebuild this NAS-Raid successfully many time.
