Hello Guru's & friends,

I currently have a Diamond Max 11 with a stuck spindle. I tried to release the spindle but sofar without luck. I would prefer to try and release the spindle, rather then going for a platter and HDA swap. Any advice ???

Thanks

Hi,

I have no 100% solution for a safe platter swap or seizure freeing, but if You have done the PS and not works, I can help You to re-align the platters, and I am not too far from you if I have right. ;)

First I would not even touch the alignment, it is preferable to be kept and not to be realigned...
I can help unless the platters weren't loosened or transplanted already.
Realigning is possible, but I would avoid that kind of wasting of time.
How many platters does it have?

hello Janos,

Thanks for the reply my friend. I actually am across the Atlantic, I have moved from europe about 6 years ago. I have only been to your city once and that was about 9 years ago. Hopefully I have some time to go again soon. Alignment is still ok.

Thanks.

Mr. Pepe,

Thanks for the response! The drive has 4 platters with Spacers.

I think I have found a way to free the spindle (at least in theory)

We will see...

agree with pepe, the better way is to keep the alignment, if it is possible. ;)
Anyway, there are still one chance after the last one. :D

ps:
Oh, i remember this as You are in Germany, sorry. :)
Anyway, i think i have a good idea for shipping, if it is needed.
PM me if i can help you....

Good luck, my friend! :)

Update to the ugly grizzly bear

Sucess, I was able to free the spindle and the drive is now imaging :D
It was not as tough as I thought...
