hi all i am having an issue with a dropped seagate drive model no ST3320820AS, drive was dropped during operation and motor froze completely. I successfully loosend the motor and got the drive spinning, however the motor was spinning very loudl and had some vibration to it so drive would not become ready, i moved the platters, heads and magents and pcb to a new donor chasis, drive will now spin up correctly and sounds normal, however drive will not id.
the drive spins up and starts clicking, when running through pc3000 it takes about 1 to 2 minutes and gives the followig terminal output,
HM Reset 4096k x 16 DRAM GALAXY - 1_Disk S-6D 09-22-06_15:48 0HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM SFI ! (P)SATA Reset $HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM HM SFI ! Failed sys sect. write! Nwt Er 11 RdWr 15eed.00.0002

However at the end of this i get the DRD and DSC lights but the drive sounds like it has spun down. I launch DE and the drive gets Id'd correctly, with correct model, serial and firware all displayed.
i start the copy process, the drive starts to spin up, click, attempt to copy and then powers down with the following messages
->LBA = [ 0.. ], Step = 256 Error - Set UDMA = UDMA66 ->LBA = 0, Step = 256 [Drive is not ready!!!] Software reset... Hardware reset Ok ->LBA = 0, Step = 1 [Drive is not ready!!!] ->LBA = 0, Jump = 200 Software reset... Hardware reset Power OFF Power ON Software reset... Wait 25000 ms. Drive is not ready! Power OFF! 15/04/2009 3:47:24 PM - Execution of all processes is aborted!
i tried a different set of heads and the same thing still happens, platters seem to be spinning correctly and even with no distortion visible.
could this be an alignment issue, during the transplant process i used HPE too keep platters correclty aligned and removed as a set.
Any ideas on this are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance
