Drive Info:

FW: 3.ALC

Drive is 5 months old, turned off computer working perfectly one night and next day rebooted to a drive not detected and not recognized by BIOS. Tried plugging drive into 2.5 enclosure and reading it with another computer but still not detected.

Drive has never made a noise or any clicking and I can hear the drive spin up in the 2.5 enclosure but cannot detect it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I can try next. Could it be the PCB board? and if so anyone know of where the best place to look for a match.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Start by connecting the drive to the terminal (RS-232) and post the log.

I am new to all this and will be honest this is the first drive that ever crashed on me. I am guess and please point me in the right direction if you don't mind, that I need to download MHDD software and try to read the Hard Drive that way.

Please let me know if this is correct either way I need to find an RS-232 cable that connects to the SATA drive (any links to where I can buy this).

Thanks again

If you have valuable data on your hdd, forget any info about doing a repair yourself.

see: results-the-yourself-solutions-t11912.html#p76776

If there is no valuable data on the hdd, return it for warranty replacement.

If you do not (want to) accept this advice - allthough you asked for it in this forum
(sorry, that happens frequently from new - one time - members) - you are going to
risk not only your data, but also the drive.

If you cant or dont want to afford the money for a pro to get the data back, then
put this drive to a save place, and wait until you can or perhaps want to afford it.

There is NO OTHER solution or advice - whatever YOU WANT to hear.

Try to take good picture of drive and PCB board and post here to make sure it is not a burned TVS on your board. This problems could be many things but start with picture please

Stop to try and fix if you do not understand. Take to shop near you and have them test drive. This could be many problems. If you do not understand how to hook drive to receive terminal log then stop before loosing your data. Do not try more it will only cost you more in the end. Just get a new drive install and load windows back on computer. It is hard to determine problem this way could be lots of things causing this. Could be problem in FW, SA, Heads, PCB. If drive still spins up it is not completely dead yet. Go get an estimate and see what they tell you problem is first. After you can post here to see if solution is a good one and check on prices here to see what others would charge you.
