hi All,
i am having some issues with this drive,
initially the drive would spin, then slow down do this 3 times and then stop spinning, it would not ID.
i swapped boards and was able to get the drive to spin up and stay spinning correctly, but the drive would still not id.

going through some procedues i was able to backup the rom image from the old drive and restroe this to the new board, now the drive spins up, sounds normal, becomes ready and wil id with correct model and serial and capacity everytime.

when i try and image the drive with DE i am getting to about 500000 blocks and then all stops imaging, it starts imaging with black boxes only.
i did a heads test and found that head 5 is faulty according to pc3000 so i built a head map and tried imaging with head 5 not used, the problem is head 1 and 2 image fine then when it gets to heads 3 and 4 it stops imaging and only shows blacks boxes in DE.

i am suspecting head damage here, i did a test with Atola and got the result saying there is a problem with the head stack also.

if i try and access the data using DE i am able to browse the drive to see the folders but they are all empty and have a red mark next to them.

i have a donor that should work for this drive but the 5th and 6 characters of dcm code are

patient is HHRCHV2CHB and donor is HBRCNV2AB, will this be suitable? characters 5 and 6 should match but only the 6th matches here

can you also give me some more information about head alignment with these drives,

thank you all

Have you try to use udma33, and set to only 1 sector ( in reverse) to see what happen.

Dont try to change heads or i think you will lost it.

Maybe can be some weak head.

Hi Zebong

thank yo for the reply.

i tried different combinations of imaging properties and am currently trying this one, but looking at the initial behavior it looks like it is doing exactly what it did before, will try for a bit longer

thank you

Try putting the donor board back on the donor drive and running express test for most of the drive & see what happens.
