Hi everyone
I have a problem with a Hitachi HDT725040VLAT80
This drive comes from a memup 400 GB USB external drive
The drives is not recognized by vista and is making this precise noise :
http://www.neufgiga.com/index.php?m=c9a ... a2a971add7Can you help me to identify where the problem comes from : electronic ? mechanic ? pcb ? engine ?
If it's the PCB, does anyone have this model ?
Here is a picture of the drive :

Thank you

99% it's the spindle stuck.
Almost certainly due to it being dropped or knocked over.

Seized spindle problem usually requires platters transplant to get data. Drive itself is unfixable
Success of such a procedure in majority depends of experience and skills level
I doubt it can be done successfully by somebody with 0 experience
PS: Sorry if that doesn't work for you
PPS: If you played Diablo you should understand

Chances less than zero...

I've been able to free up spindles on the Hitachi 400s and 500s to recover data, without a platter swap. So I would give the odds as being better than 0%.
Is it possible for someone without a clean room to do it? Yes, it's POSSIBLE, but definitely NOT recommended! Platter swaps are another matter, and the odds would be 0% for that procedure.

I don't recommend without a clean room.
Because it will be contaminating the plate(s),
if now everyone that came here, thing that can open a disk without been contaminated.
i see that i will have a lot off new cases.
