WD3200BMVS Twisted Chassis

June 12th, 2009, 4:51

This drive was an external, dropped and has a noticable twist in the chassis. Had a quick look for obvious md and mha damage and it looks like a complete platter and mha exchange is required. Head 2 & 3 has not parked on the correct rail and appears damaged. I can see a couple of md spots on the top platter.

Sounds like heads were parked when dropped but the customer attempted to power up the drive after the fall.

Recovery chances?

Yeah low is unfortunately about right. I always want to do the job no matter but depends on if they want to pay for it. It must of been some drop to warp the hda about 3mm.
