HM121HC (M5P family). Gets DRD after pwr on but hangs (BSY) if trying to ID or access SA. SW RST or HW RST gets drive DRD again with a new ScanOff ..
Terminal:
IS=+00000
SO
Ld
ENG>SRV>
SvoTbl Loaded
BD
ENG>ScanOff
Aborted SA scan or what? Any ideas?
Customer says that drive died after a checkdisk.

It' s not possible to read any sector, no service tracks, and no SA structure check can be done. ATA register's status is BSY +DRD & DSC when trying. It's stays that way until a reset is issued, and gets BSY again if more tries is done.
I did not have suitable drive in stock so I have not tryed the PCB on another drive. I'll think that a hotswap would be next step to see if I can access the SA that way. I have not seen the "ScanOff" on any other drive before.

I know checkdisk is alwas suck, but this is a little more bad than usually....
If you can't get the drive to ready with soft resets, yes, you can try the hotswap...

I'll like smileys

But NO to what part? Servo table loaded and no typical "damaged head terminal output" Drive is also making a nice small calibrating sound. So heads not primary suspected. Masked ROM in this model. But PCP is probably ok. Huh? PM ?

Drive is getting ready with soft resets. But as soon as something else is done, it's busy again.
Do you recognize this particlar "ScanOff" terminal info?

Ask the customer what was the LATEST thing they have done... Or run. And you have the answer. Or read the log, it should point you to the problem. Then proceed

After a good nights sleep, I did some more tests. Success and customer data is 100% recovered.
Case closed. Thank's all for your inputs.

I was sure about that. You had a BIG clue on the log.
