hey everyone i think i need a new firmware because my drive says its a maxtor calypso
used to be this but that doesn't show up any more.. any suggestions?

1) are you sure the model you reported is correct?
2) assuming you have a backup of a firmware, how will you put it in your drive?
3) finally, are you thinking by a chance that you will be able to connect the drive let's say to USB like a cell phone and 'revive' it? (totally wrong).

But yes ateam, you need to spend $10,000 on kit and more $$$$ on training how to use it.
Hard drives cannot simply be "flashed" to FIX firmware problems. You can UPDATE a working firmware via s/w alone, but the drive needs to be FULLY functional to allow this.
If the data is required then on this occasion you DO need to send to a pro, if not then just trash the drive.
