Seagate Momentus 5400.4, 250GB, +5V

Hello,
I believe I may have used my Seagate Momentus 5400.4 in an external USB enclosure that had a power supply greater then +5V.

Is there a reset or way to remedy this, or even check if it is the problem?

I have gone through the Seagate Troubleshooter to no avail. I am not seeing the drive on my BIOS though.

Thanks,
Phil

Hello,

A follow up:

This is a backup drive where I do not need the information, but being a 250GB, I would rather not lose the drive.

The drive did not smoke, and it does not spin.

When I USB plug-in the external enclosure, it will power up and the enclosure LED lights up. However, when I plug in the Seagate HD, the enclosure LED goes out and appears to lose power. I've tried this with the same results on two different enclosures.

Thanks for your time.
Cheers,
Phil

If you just want the drive to be functional again, I would say RMA it rather than mess with it and kill it. 250GB drive is not a bad drive to get an extra one!!!

You can research this forum for TVS. (Remember, after this procedure, your drive may not remain stable for the use and warning from this forum signup page about the data loss!!!)

Hi,
I have too a trouble whit an Segate hd. I would like propose a question about the failure of an HD Segate 5400.4 250GB ST9250827AS.
There were no shock. After a computrer reboot the device has ceased working. The BIOS don't recognize the HD.
You can listen the sound of the HD at this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3170967/Seagate ... 0827AS.mp3

in your opininio what is the specific failure in thi device?
I hope that this is an electronic problem. what do you think about?
I have ordered an identical hard disk and I test the electronic.

Che il problema รจ da tutt'altra parte al 95%. Buona fortuna.
That the problem is 95% elsewhere. Good luck.

Prima che chieda "posso ripararmelo io ?" : NO.

Before asking "Can I fix it on my own ?" : NO.

Hi,
I am aware about the difficulties to opening the disc.
How much cost to do this work in a professional company?

I have found an intring article about a failure in an identical model to mine: http://lazyelectronics.blogspot.it/2009 ... ilure.html
What do you think about?

Hi,
I have a newer question.
My HD is a Segate 5400.4 250GB ST9250827AS, how can I know if the electronic PCB of mine is compatibile whith another model like a segate 5400.4 250GB ST9250315AS?

Meaningless question because "as is" they are not interchangeable.
Half in in the HDA , the rest is on board. And TOO MANY THINGS (variables) must match.
Times where all you need was a screwdriver and change a PCB and it should work are over.
