WD2500JS not recognized Western Digital 250 GB

July 28th, 2009, 13:02

WD2500JS hard drive not recognized. Was working until computer froze and upon reboot, drive could not be found. Tried in different computer, still no go. Of course, lots of data that I need. Can the logic board repacement be performed? I have found a board that matches most parameters (all in fact, except the DCM number.) My HD info is as follows:
Type: WD CAVIAR SE
Model: WD2500JS-00NCB1
DCM: HSBAYTJCHB
SN: wcank8182001
Date: 04 NOV 2006
Logic Board No. 2061-701335-B00 AM XT 2V22 J24Z 2 0007180 7 187
Logic Board No. 2060-701335-005 Rev A

I have located the following:
S/N: WMANK4962549
MODEL: WD2500JS-00NCB1
Date Code: 17 OCT 2006
DCM: DSBHYT2CH
BOARD#2061-701335-B00 AM on sticker
BOARD# 2060-701335-005 REV A on PCB

Could I use this logic board to save my info? Thanks

Depends on what's wrong with the hard drive. Plus will require ROM programming.

Is the drive spinning up OK?

Is it seen in BIOS at all (even as Alias name)?

Is it clicking at all?

What's wrong with the drive??? It should be a match for what you have, but you may have to manipulate the ROM to make it work, or you might get lucky and straight swap may work if the PCB was the problem...

Good Luck!!

He'll have to be VERY lucky to get a straight swap to work, this is Marvel based drive.
