I was just curious if anyone has seen a substantial drop in the number of jobs received, calls, etc. over the last year. I've seen more up and down than usual, and I tend to see people sending in drives, but deciding not to get them recovered. I'm a fairly small operation, so I only get about 10-15 drives a week in. I'd say that's dropped to about 8 on average over the last few months.

Yes you are right. I dont know in which part of the world you are. At least here in india things have worsen. 8 out of 10 jobs are rejected by even business customers . Since we cant stop investing , overheads , difficult times are likey to come.

Don't concentrate on end users.

Haven't seen much difference here. In fact we've hired some new techs recently.

Things are very quiet in Cuckoo land too. Seriously though, looking at Google's search history (zeitgeist) the search term 'data recovery' has shrunk considerably over the last few years. Look at the graph yourself and compare where it was in 2004 compared with last month... More like 80 percent decrease in search volume. Conversely, the 'news' items have increased, but probably due to SEO attempts to improve SERPS rankings.

Contacts I have in the trade are also seeing difficult times, often only 1 job a day on average. These days, there are more data recovery companies looking for a peice of a shrinking volume of work and according to the BBC website, things is sh!t - init http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8157876.stm

Price wars will force companies to downsize or have to take other action to save our businesses - We're looking at relocating to somewhere where there are currently fewer data recovery companies to see if that will help things improve. Our analysis of customer quote followups indicate that some prefer to choose a local or near local company.

FWIW, as much as I love this forum, I've not had much time to read any posts lately or chat with any of you online either. Unemployment in our area is 4% (up from 2.5% last year). Still very good overall. Our metro area featured in Money and Forbes (May/June 2009) and all professional and technical fields are growing.

We've hired two new employees. Have been so busy, that I wish I had more time to read the forum....anyway, I have talked to a peer in Atlanta, and they seem to be doing well there as well.
