Seagate 750gb barracuda 7200.11 wont spin up. I don't know too much about hard drives so bear with me... but I believe it may be related to the circuit board.
Problem is... the drive was part of a RAID0 that held important files. And worse yet, the backup to the raid died two weeks ago. (7200.10) It has crucial data for my business. I do have some backed up on DVDs but not everything.
i365 quoted $2900 to recover the dead drive and recover the raid. I will triple back up from now on.
The other disk in the Raid is a 7200.11 as well... I switched circuit boards and the dead drive now does spin up then makes a few clicking sounds and spins down. With the original board the drive doesn't even try to spin up.
I searched the whole board for some fried area and everything looks pretty clean, below are photos of the only area that may be burnt out along with model and serial.
Is $2900 a crazy quote for this type of operation? I know the RAID0 makes everything alittle harder. Next time I will go with RAID 1 or 5 I didn't even notice too much of a real world improvement using the RAID0 over my velociraptor 300gb. Benchmarks yes.. real world performance... not quite.
thanks!
