Seagate SCSI

I have Seagate SCSI that first showed common / typical Translator symptoms yesterday. Today, however, I no longer get medium error. Drive is now showing ID correctly. I can read only first 300,000 sectors without error. I'm suspecting Plist corruption. Any experienced thoughts appreciated.

Yes, I tried many other areas right away of course.

I also tried other machines and controllers. Same result.

Hello pcrecovery did u tried a Hot swap?, becaue if u tried u can reach only some sectors, send me on PM Sense Key, Code, Qualifier

Originally, 1 day ago, LBA 0 and not accessible any data. Hotswap allowed access to read Plist Glist, SMART,etc. 24 hrs later, drive no longer give LBA0 and no more medium error. Serial,size,all ID info correct. Plist,Glist all same . This is with original PCB. I always suspect bad head and scsi often not click. BTW, I image whole drive in only 30 minute, and I only get data in beginning. I assume if both heads bad, I would not read Plist,Glist,etc and have so much functionality to read 300MB data in beginning. I suspected a weak/bad head, but would expect read more data in other locations from good head, no?

No, if you have one of the Main heads reading, it is good enough to access SA.

Yes, you can read in other locations, but with a special tool/s.

Understood, I was thinking that I would not only find some good sectors in the beginning 300MB but also elsewhere as well. An imaging only took 30 min but found errors everywhere but beginning. Also, drive went from unrecognized to recognized which seemed opposite of getting worsened.
At any rate, a partner is diagnosing it now for me, we'll see what PC3k SCSI says..

I don't think I can be convinced it's head. I'm 99% sure this is firmware corruption. We'll see...

Case solved. Thanks to all pros that helped...have another one here from 3 years ago. This one was several thousands to recover and took 2 weeks to get back from well known DR company. Diagnosing and will try to fix it for fun...

what was wrong with it? I don't want to know how you fixed it. Might aswell finish off the thread to make it of some use.
