My story about seagate disks.
Been using seagate disk in previus systems(time)a lot...but now,i decided not to use disks from that company aby more.
I buyed components for my comp nearly after new year in Austria at E-tech.Disks were two baracudas 7200.11 320 as.One disk stoped workinf after 7 months.Same dealer where i buyed it exchange that disk for another same type disk which was "certifed repaired seagate ..(like it stated on the back plate of the disk).When i bring that disk home,disk failed to recognized by bios..had every 2 sec beep...like it wont spin up..disk was no good.In the shop exchange that disk for a "new" one baracuda 7200.12 418as.Bring the sewcond disk home tested it with seagate tool under DOS.Disk failed to pass even short test.Later i tested it with Hard disk sentinel under windows..it found nearly 1000 bad surface sectors..and this number later increse...And this is a new disk.Iv been read a lot about firmware updates..many people couldnt use baracudas after update.
After that i already buyed WD raptors.And this is where im gonna stay.
So SEAGATE-NO THANK YOU-NEVER AGAIN!

Bear in mind that "1st choice" "2nd choice" and so on DO EXIST on computer parts, also refurbished items, factory refurbished items and so on DO EXIST.
When people have in mind only one thing - THE PRICE , the result of such mass markets is what we see everyday.
I use mainly Samsung drives on MY systems, but they are more expensive.
(another con of Samsung : very few people in the DR field know the guts of that drives).
Segate, if you want, has a special series of drives (MORE EXPENSIVE!!) designed to withstand harsh conditions. I use them on industrial equipment and special applications and they work flawlessly.
And to tell the truth, I have Seagate and WD drives, in optimal working conditions, running flawlessly since many many years. There's a reason for it : OPTIMAL power supply (not crap) , handled properly and avoided stress.
All the drives I see are damaged by user : fallen, used as frisbee, the dog ran and threw the PC down the table, crap power supply fried the PCB and so on. Rarely I see logical firmware problems....

Importance of power supply - agreed.

and add addtitional FAN near HD to maintain its temperature.
