HDD 0.01% erased with DBAN

September 18th, 2009, 22:56

hi,

i formatted two HDD's for 2 seconds with DBAN (eraser tool), but i could recover some data using file scavenger. now i have some questions:

1. the files are shown, the problem is just their content: some have "ddddddddddd...." in it. do other tools work similar to file scavenger or could there be a chance to get more valid files? what about testdisk, can i rebuild the boot sector somehow?

2. when i search the possible corrupted files for the "dddd" string and its not found, does that mean the file is valid or could there be other characters in the corrupted file? and is it possible that files have merged, for example two .txts have become one?

3. when the program CDCheck finds no crc-error, does that mean that the files on that disk are not corrupted and valid? because discs lose health over time.

4. when file scavenger says "good" status, is the file 100% valid or could it also be corrupted? what about the files without status?
