Hello,

i have this WD Harddisk which got not recognized by the Computer but spinning up fine. I changed the PCB but it doesn`t help. I tried with a Firmware Recovery tool but it don`t detects the HD.

So finally i try to replace the Headstack. 1st try failed because spining the platters and moving the Heads toward it won`t work for me on this disk, on other Models i had no problem. This Drive has 3 Platters so its a little bit difficult. I build a plastic tool with 3 double L Forms which slide under the Heads in the Parking Zone and lift them up, so i can easily move them over the Platters without touching them.

So after i put the new Headstack into the broken Drive without any Damage, the Drive spin up and starts clicking, maybe after 2 minutes it get recognized by the bios but if i want to copy Data i get maybe some MB out of it, then it starts clicking again and fails.

I`ve read that i had to adjust the Heads, so i tried to unscrew/screw the Head a little but this don`t work. Can someone help me with this Part? I read the Head replacement Article on this Site before but i do not really understand how the Author do this Head fixing stuff with his Screwdriver.

Thank you for help.

Hello,

The article, what you read is good for only some cases and on only some models.
This is why you can't use it on multihead drives.
You need special tools and knowledge to solve this problem.
This case is clearly for a pro.
You sholud send it to someone who have working solution for this problem.

If you are interested, i can help.

Regards,
Janos

We can help in Italy too with proprietary technology, hope there's no micro damage or something wrong BETWEEN the platters.
