hi all
i have a couple of questions about seagate drives and am hoping someone has done this or can share their thougths

i have a patient drive seagate 5400.2 st98823a site amk and f/w3.06

heads are faulty

can this donor be used, it is from a 100gb and not 80gb drive
st100823a
site amk
f/w 3.05

i know that the f/w should be 3.06 but i am asking as i have had success on other drives that i have used a same site and model but dfferent firmware and the drive has worked for recovery.

2nd question is whether a 80gb sata drive can be sued for a donor for an 80gb ide assuming other files such as model, f/w site match?

thank you in advance

I think the 100 GB heads should work in the 80 GB drive.

But in most cases that I have seen of head failures in Momentus, there is media damage, too. If so, you may not be certain if your "test" worked or not.

The 2nd & 3rd position in the serial number of a drive should match for head compatibility among drives of the same capacity.

If you are using heads from a higher capacity drive, I have had good luck matching the 2nd serial number position. The 3rd will be different.

Jono

PS: These are my opinions. However, in the realm of Seagate, Doomer is "The Man."
