Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I've been working with a WD800JD Marvel series Sabre 58 drive (xxMUxx).
It clicks and spins down.
1. PCB has been changed. No difference.
2. Heads have been changed - at least 3 different sets. No improvement.
3. Donor heads all work when put back in original drives, so no media damage.
4. Hotswap never works - only clicks and times out
5. Micro jog on swapped heads is close enough
About the only think left to try . . . is to put the platter in another enclosure. I'm reluctant to do that chielfly because I don't think it will make a difference.
Am I wrong? Has anyone gotten one of these back on track by swapping the motor?
Any suggestions of something else to try before I give up?
Thanks!
