Hi All,

I have a WD10EAVS 1 TB WD 3.5" SATA hard disk with a damaged motor controller on the PCB (External hard disk with the wrong power supply plugged in by the user). This PCB has a BGA chip and no U12 Firmware chip to remove.

Will a swap with a drive with the exact same model # work? If so - what is the minimum criteria i should use when buying the spare parts (they can cost a lot of money on Ebay and i won't want waste money through trial and error). I also have a PC-3000 UDMA if this is required but the faulty board cannot be accessed in kernell mode as-is. If not - any tips on how to perform a PCB replacement/repair on this drive? If you can help me with this info by Private message i would be most grateful and happy to return the favor in return with other information i can share with you privately.

Thanks,
Zed.

Or if you are smart enough you can transplant BGA chip...

Or... (yes it is possible).

Didn't see he has UDMA. In that case, yes. Otherwise, I would do some "McGyvering" but this is another story :D

My fault, seen the message on mobile. I need a netbook at least

buy yourself a BOSCH Fridge instead then you can be a pro recovery engineer!

Thanks all for the reply, so if i understand correctly - i need a PCB that's compatible (i.e same model # and PCB board number) then use the PC-3000 to rebuild the ROM?

My problem has been to find a matching PCB (match full model number or just the 1st part (e.g "WD10EAVS-xxxxx"). In previous attempts, simply putting a new pcb would cause the disk to click a few times then power down (and not get detected the model # or serial # at all by the PC-3000).

Zed,

You could solve this using a loader.
Contact me on msn or pm.
