Western Digital WD1600JS
P/N: WD1600JS-00NCB1
DCM: DSBACTJAA
PCB Printed: 2060-701335-005 REV A
PCB White Sticker: 2061-701335-B00 AE
DATE: 12 NOV 2005 (Product of Malaysia)

Drive was powering on then stopping, now won't power on/spin up. Not seen in the BIOS and MHDD couldn't see it either. Has very slight heat marks on one chip. I'm suspecting a power surge caused the problem.

I'm new to this (though I'm an IT Engineer)... the data I've lost isn't critical but there is lots of private data that I can't let out of my possesion so I'm going to have to give it a try myself. This forum has been a huuge help so far, I've been reading lots of useful information.

I'm suspecting a replacement PCB might help and as I understand it I'll need to desolder the U12 chip from the defective board and solder it onto the donor board in order to transfer the firmware.

I'm not quite so clear how closely the product number and DCM have to match so I'm starting out by looking for a matching P/N and PCB printed version.

I read a post explaining how the chars in the DCM refer to different parts of the drive so perhaps if the DCM doesn't match but the product number and PCB serial do it's better to keep the firmware from the donor PCB?

Would really appreciate any advice on what I should attempt to match for a donor - and to hear from anyone who has a donor PCB for sale!?

Many thanks,
Phil

Just the 2061-701335-xxx has to match on the PCB.

Jono is correct.

As long as you transfer the ROM and the drive itself is OK then it should work.
