I have a three-platter, 320GB WD3200KS-00PFB0 and am trying to find the platter thickness and spacing between the platters. This drive was manufactured in Thailand in March of 2006. Unfortunately, the drive is in the mail right now so I don't have access to the DCM code or any other information except the serial number.

I tried calling Western Digital, but the guy tried to tell me it was a single-platter drive. That's not true unless it was manufactured by robots who brought technology from the future back to 2006. From what I have found, WD did not make a 2-platter version of the WD3200XX until later in 2006 and did not make a single-platter version until 2008.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can either tell me this information or where I can find it. I've searched everywhere I can but haven't found it.

I will have a spare one to open in a few days, plus a working donor drive and the drive I want to recover. The problem is that I want to buy a head comb from a company which will shut down for Christmas on Tuesday, 12/22 so I need get my order in by Monday afternoon. If I don't receive the drive to disassemble on Monday then I won't be able to order the tool until January.

I have seen the "50 cent head replacement tool" that Scott Moulton makes from pill containers, but I really don't want to try that will 6 heads.

It's kind of a multiple choice question at this point:
a) 0.050 in. (1.27mm) thickness with a 0.088 in. spacer
b) 0.087 in. (2.2mm) thickness with a 0.042 in. spacer
c) 0.069 in. (1.75mm) thickness with a 0.099 in. spacer
d) None of the above

Never mind! I have the dimensions now. The platters (3 of them) are 0.050 inches thick and are spaced 0.088 inches apart.

I have a feeling that there will be some more questions about this drive...
