Hi All,

Problem media info
Model: ST31000333AS
P/N: 9FZ136-568
FW: SD35

Problem Description
Drive spin up for a while with some rather slightly raugh noises then spin down completely, and again spin up ... then down, again and again. Console show status = busy and following is the output from the terminal

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>
(P) SATA Reset

LED:000000CC FAddr:0024CDC9
Rst 0x20M
(P) SATA Reset

LED:000000CC FAddr:0024CDC9
Rst 0x20M
(P) SATA Reset

LED:000000CC FAddr:0024CDC9
Rst 0x20M

Basically that's no command can be insert as the drive is keep resetting

It sounded like PCB problem to me, but I'm sure.
Anyone here seen this problem before? How should I go about it?

Please advice
Thanks in advance

Contact a company that knows how to deal with this problem in your area - where are you based ?

This definitely looks like the typical 7200.11 busy error ...

2 choices:

1. No valuable data on the drive:
If you are under warranty - have the drive exchanged for free
If no warranty left - buy a new drive

or

2. Valuable data on the drive:
Look for a DR company offering the 7200.11 repair.

As you do not state which country you are from - cant give you a suggestion about
a DR company in your area - perhaps you add this info to your user data ... would
be nice to know that.

I agree with Falter; though, I have encountered a few drives that have suffered head crashes with similar symptoms.

Yes, especially if it is clicking/spinning down etc

Had yesterday exact same situation as explained above
- same drive / model and same behaviour / information on terminal.

The standard solution worked instantly.
