Samsung SP2514N trying to spin up

January 7th, 2010, 17:17

Hi,

I have a Samsung SP2514N which won't spin up, I've connected to 3 different enclosures each with the same result.

When I power on the drive I get the usual whirring noise for about 3 or 4 seconds then a click followed by a thud, this click and thud happens 4 times and then the drive powers down.

On 2 occasions it sustains the click and thud sequence without powering down.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

YM.

This isn't something that can be DIY'able I'm afraid.

This needs pro attention.

Do not power up any more, each time you do so you are lessening your chances of recovery.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Leaving it well alone now.

What do you think the chances of recovery are? Is it something you can do?

If the platters aren't damaged then chances are good.

If they are damaged a little but not too badly, then there's still a chance.

In fact I've today done a SP2004C (200Gb similar model) today with dinks in the platters where it was dropped, still got a 95%+ recovery :-)
