This drive has Seagate's new super compression and can compress 320GB of data down to 0MB.

I can't say that I've encountered this particular firmware, but would be suspicious of it being victim to the common issues of the 7200.11 series. Does the drive make any unusual sounds when powered on? Do you have the ability to read the terminal output?

I suggest getting it assessed by a professional lab with all the necessary tools. If the data isn't worth it, get it replaced under warranty.

no the drive sounds good, spins up ok, is detected by windows and bios but just wont initialise >.<

got to love seagate !!!.... is it worth trying the reset as per the busystate firmware ?...

3rd time off tring to initialise came up with : " The request could no be performed because of an I/O device error "

Don't be tempted to flash a CCxx drive with SDxx firmware. Seagate warns that doing this will render your drive inoperable.

If you can get your drive to fail SeaTools, then Seagate will accept the failing Test Code as your evidence, even if the drive subsequently comes good.

About SeaTools Test Codes:
http://seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?local ... 48090aRCRD

"SeaTools Test Codes are based on the type of test that failed and the product serial number. No two codes are the same. The online RMA submission system will use the SeaTools Test Code number to help process the exchange of your product. The code tells Seagate that the drive is, in fact, bad and that there is virtually no chance that a good drive is being returned."

Wow, a .11 BSY bug! Haven't seen one for years! Those were the days!

As far as I remember, the DIY approach was:
- Isolate PCB from HDD with a business card
- Power on the drive
- F3 T>/2Z
- Remove the card and screw the screws
- F3 2> U
- F3 2> /Tm0,6,2,,,,,22

In some rare occassions SMART reset was needed (/1N1) and some people said clear g-list also needed but I don't find it a good idea without proper checks.
DON'T TRY THIS ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN .11!! Trying it on a .12 will give you partial access problem and the translator will have to be re-created with nrg list into account!

In fact, that command can give partial access on .11 as well (like my very first .11 case).

And after F3 2>U read system files or modules?
Before F3 T>Tm0.....

If i remember well, on some of this 7200.11 it is needed to insulate motor instead HDA.
On some others, it is needed to completely remove pcb from hdd.

well, i had no other Moose case having entries in NRG either, only the very first one, it was even before commercial solutions appeared...
So it seems i was 'lucky' enough :)
well in a way i was lucky, coz in a few hours i knew the cause of the so called 'partial access problem' and was able to handle it, most ppl knew nothing about it for years.
