Spin Up Time

February 9th, 2010, 9:41

Hey guys, having a bit of a problem with my 1000gb Samsung HD103UJ. Lately its been making one light but noticeable clicking noise every few hours which causes my computer to freeze which includes in windows and in games. Windows is not even on this drive.

The drive passes samsung and seagate diagnostics run under freedos with a cd.

I noticed that the Spin Up time is only reading 69 for this drive while my other 2 drives are at 100 under S.M.A.R.T.

Is the drive about to die or what? Will samsung give me a new one if i return it now or do i have to wait for it to completely die?

Rob

call em. I am pretty sure they will give u a new one if u still got warranty. Also u can run a surface test on it ( HDDscan or MHDD can do that for u ) and if u find some slow/bad sectors, it will help u in dealing with em.

ok ill call them. sectors are all ok. spin up time dropped to 60 today and a warning has appeared in DiskCheckup v2.1 that says predicted TEC date 2 February 2010.

emailed samsung and they told me to go see the store i bought it from. All i did was tell the guy that it was buggered, he didn't blink an eye, walked out the back got me a new f3 model and said here ya go. Was dumbfounded by how easy it was to get it replaced. I guess they have problems with these samsung drives. This new samsung f3 is lighting fast btw. twice as fast read and write speeds as my other 2 drives.
