Unlocking ATA Password for Seagate

February 9th, 2010, 19:47

Ok, last option before i hammer the hdd lol...

Drive:
Seagate ST380011A 80GB

What i have:
eeprom file from original xbox hdd, used to upgrade to new hdd. hdinfo.txt backed up from original hdd containing drive key. one inaccessible hdd

Code:
drive key: 32 36 e2 26 e1 a5 5b 7a 15 35 70 2e 52 8a 76 e6 8a e6 a7 ad 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

situation:
in midst of softmodding upgraded hdd in xbox, power went on xbox that was powering the hdd. with the hdd in the xbox;now being advised it needs a service.

actions:
tried using xboxhdm to unlock with eeprom, attempts but still shows as locked and secure. left hdd unplugged from power, tried again twice. FAIL
tried using xboxhdm to unlock with master pw (XBOXSCENE), does not work. FAIL
tried using hdunlocker via boot disc, able to unlock drive with drive key, but says 'device not ready' when attempting to disable security. FAIL
tried using atapwd, gets through first bit, then device busy one second. FAIL
tried using mhdd with similar results. FAIL

other options ive heard of include using the mysterious zap-it formatting tool, to blank the hdd and password. and firmware flashing the hdd, i have managed to grab the firmware for my drive, however no official one from seagate which means no nicely wrapped flash tool.

so anyone have any constructive suggestions for unlocking the drive, or can someone provide a suitable flashing tool for the firmware?

despite the u/n, i actually do care, i dont like losing hardware, im cheap, and i dont like the fact i cant fix this lol.

thanks muchly

Are you trying to unlock it so you can continue the hard drive?

or

Are you trying to unlock it so you can access all the saved data?

the data is unimportant with this one, just need the disk to be unlocked.

It will be a lot easier to throw this drive in the bin and buy a new one.

no chance of firmware update to fix the issue. And no free solution too, you will need a special software/hardware to unlock your seagate.
