Hi everyone,

First off, apologies if this question has been answered many times before. My laptop came with windows 7 32bit installed, but I wanted 64 bit. The official version from microsoft was going to take a week to dl at the rate it was going, so I decided to go with a torrent. Needless to say, it didn't activate and I simply wanted to get a genuine version on my laptop through a clean install. Unfortunately, when attempting to install I got a windows registry error. I tried installing both on the C drive and also on a separate partition to no avail. I'm fairly certain it isn't the disc because I couldn't even reinstall the torrented version, and I burned multiple copies of each to be sure.

Then I decided to try Darik's Boot and Nuke but neither the USB version or the cd/dvd version would work, citing "non fatal error". If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it, I have backed everything up I just want to get a clean windows install.

Three is a restore partition on your laptop. Active this restore and restore your system back to factory setting and start over. Or get a copy from the store and put in CD drive start from CD and install, delete partition and format and follow install instruction to start over

Thanks for this suggestion, but the recovery partition is not working correctly. In my BIOS I hit F3 for the recovery, but it just stalls and then reboots to the beginning of BIOS again.

I called tech support for MSI and he said because I installed a different OS, that portion of the recovery partition will not work (ie, I can't go back to Win7 32 bit). He said unless I burned my own recovery disc, I would have to buy one from them. This sounds like total BS to me but I'm not sure.

Edit: Talked to rep#2, he says even if I were to buy a recovery cd it wouldn't help me at this point, as it will not revert back to my old operating system. These guys don't sound very confident in what they are telling me either... :?
