I am also looking for a WD1200JB-00FUA0 replacement.

Details as follows:

Drive parameters
----------------
LBA 234441648 (234.441.648)

MDL
___
WD1200JB - 00FUA0

DATE
----
24 NOV 2003

DCM
---
HSBACTJAA

PCB number (IDE connector white sticker)
----------------------------------------
2061-001179-090 CE

PCB number (etched on PCB itself)
---------------------------------
2060-001179-003 REV A

Big Chip (CPU)
--------------
WD70C22 GP
00-00 ST 1.3

Motor Controller Chip
---------------------
L6282 3.2E
ST

I have removed the FW (U12) chip. I'm looking for a replacement HD with similar *PCB white sticker number* and *DCM #*
Or, as alternative, for a PCB with similar *PCB white sticker number*, *CPU* and *Motor Controller Chip*.

If I suceed on recover my data, I will drop you a line.

Cheers

Rafaela:

I'm not in a hurry. Take your time. However, I want to have the least work as possible.

So I'm looking for a HD (desirable), one that I can swap PCB without the need of swapping ROM.

I'm prepared to swap ROM, but I would prefer not having the hassle to do so.

Finding a WD1200JB-****A0 would do the trick, some say. However that is not true, since I have also a WD1200JB-75CRA0 that is not compatible with the WD1200JB-00FUA0 (the fixing holes are placed on different positions, different IC chips, also)

So it appears to me that I need to find a WD1200JB-****A0 AND a matching 15 digit IDE white bar code label PCB. However this is not true, since there are PCB that have different CPU (WD0C22 ST1.3 or WD0C22 ST 2.0). I'm not sure if I can upgrade the CPU version, but one thing is true for me: one should match the Motor Controller Chip (L6282 3.2E).

On another post that I read, Erin Lee says that it would suffice to "match the PCB# etched along side the PCB (http://www.deadharddrive.com/forums/vie ... php?t=6140).

I have found some parts whose sellers claim that are compatible with my PCB, but the component layout is sligtly different (it misses K2 component). I much appreciate a photo of the actual PCB (IC's side).

I have received the following PM:

Quote:
Hi!

I have a board for your Western Digital drive.

Price is $35.00, plus shipping $2.00 US and $5.00 International

You will have to replace a ROM chip on a new board with a chip from original board in order to match your microcode 100%.

If you wish to buy it, make a PayPal payment to: harddrive_________@gmail.com

Thank you.

I was suspicious about someone asking to make him a payment, without publicizing the deal, so I asked the user to open a "For Sale" subforum topic:

Quote:

I was really interested on a new HD instead of a PCB.

I like your proposal of $35+$5, though.

If you will be kind enough, open a new thread with the name "Mikeluz request" on the "for Sale" subforum and provide me some info about the PCB of yours. Also please add a high resolution image of the actual "chip side" of the PCB, since I have came across some eSellers that claim that theirs PCBs are the same as mine, but their components arrangel are different from mine.

I appreciate your attention.

Sincerely,
Mikeluz

P.S.:Upon the overture of the thread, drop me a line with the URL of it. Thx

The user responded to me this:

Quote:
Mikeluz,

I am afraid that I won't be able to satisfy your request, because it will take a long time and hassle.
Unfortunately, I don't have that time to spare.

If you have some concerns, don't proceed with a purchase.

Al__.

I responded

Quote:
It certainly won't take you much time than replying to me. But, if you are not interested on selling the item, don't contact me on the 1st place. I'm sorry for your lack of interest on understanding my concerns.

Don't gamble with other people.

One get suspicious about someone asking him/her money without publicizing the deal. It is normal to complete deals on eBay, or on "For Sale" forums. So why is someone asking money, but not interested on publicizing the deal?

I understand the "lack of time" excuse. But when someone is offering help, well...it's offering their time to help. So please, implement a Feedback forum, so users can feedback other users buy/sell. Each user should have a Feedback thread, so other users can track down their feedback. Just a proposal.

Do you need the ROM.BIN file or are you looking for the PCB with that spec?

I appreciate your reply, sincerely,

Actually I'm looking for hardware (HDD). I do prefer a compatible HDD rather than a PCB that I have no garantees of success.

But, if somebody here wants to shed some light on compatible PCB's...?

HDD-wise
---------

1 - Some say match first 15 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-090 CE) and PCB etched code (2060-001179-003 REV A) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

___
2 - Others say match WD1200JB-****A0 and first 15 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-090 CE) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

___
3 - Others say match WD1200JB-****A0 and all PCB etched code (2060-001179-003 REV A) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

___
4.1 - Others say match WD1200JB-00FUA0 and all DCM# (HSBACTJAA) and first 10 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-*** **) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

4.2 - Others say match WD1200JB-00FUA0 and last 3 digits of DCM# (******JAA) and first 10 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-*** **) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

___
5.1 - Others say DCM# don't matter at all if you match first 15 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-090 CE) and then you MUST[/b] swap ROM(U12)chip.

5.2 - Others say DCM# don't matter at all if you match first 10 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-*** **) andexact match CPU (WD70C22 ST1.3) and exact match MotorControllerChip (L6282 3.2E) and then you MUST swap ROM(U12)chip.

PCBs-wise
---------

6.1 - Some say that once you match first 15 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-090 CE) [and exact match CPU (WD70C22 ST1.3) and exact match MotorControllerChip (L6282 3.2E) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

6.2 - Others say that once you match first 10 digits IDE label code (2061-001179-*** **) and exact match CPU (WD70C22 ST1.3) and exact match MotorControllerChip (L6282 3.2E) and then you MAY need to swap ROM(U12)chip.

(...)

PS: Later, I will add links to the above mentioned op[in]tions, for reference purposes.
