Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Bought a new hard drive at begining of the week.
Fantastic
Backed up all my work onto this drive and everything was going swimmingly.
In the midst of clearing old external drive to back up all my data now on this drive, and without warning Windows XP Froze. Nothing
Switched off and restared and the HD failed to boot and even be recognised by the bios. Installed windows on another Hard Drive in the vain hope that I could recover the data from the WD5000AAKS, however when I plug this SATA Drive into the PC neither HD boots ??!
Really perplexed and more concerned as all my personal data is on this 4 day old WD Drive
Any Clues or pointers would be most gratefuully appreciated
Regards
Alan

It's not seen in the BIOS?
No clicking, or spinning down?
Chances are on a PCB failure by the sound of it, but it's not DIY'able on this model.

Just what I didnt want to hear !!
Hangs at the SATA device discovery
Finds SATA1 and then moves to next device and then stops ??
No clicking - can hear a whine occassionally - but seems very quiet
I have personal data that I need to retrieve photos, accounts and personal stuff
Do you have any idea of cost and timescales should I go down this route
Thanks
Alan

Sean at PC Image should be able to take care of you for a reasonable price.

If it's "just" the PCB then it shouldn't be too bad.
PM me if interested.
