REMAP usage?

October 25th, 2011, 11:41

Hi -- quick question: I have a HD that I'm about to replace due to some errors (not a lot, but causing awful performance problems). I was thinking about using MHDD's SCAN command with the REMAP option to fix up what I can prior to copying the drive's contents to a new one, but want to be sure I don't mess it up, because the documentation only really talks about using the REMAP option after running the ERASE command, which I don't want to do -- I want all the data on the drive.

Would running SCAN with REMAP first be advisable to make that data accessible for the copy operation, or would it destroy that data?

DO NOT Remap if you need your data!!!!

OK -- I was unclear on whether or not the REMAP option copied the sector contents (if readable) to a good sector, then pointed to that. I'll just do the drive copy and hope it all gets there. I have backed up all the vital stuff, so I'm safe no matter what.

THANK YOU for the quick response!
