I have 2.5 external hdd which suddenly required a driver which I don't have.
The device manager show a yellow question mark "USB Device".
I don't have an access to my data.
I've already tried to plug it in few other computers and of all them show the same symptom.

How can I fix that?
Is there any driver which can solve the problem?

Many Thanks!

The strange thing here is the "suddenly" part. If ur external worked fine before and sudely stoped for all the computers u tried em on - ill blame hardware , not the software. At this point i would sugest taking drive out of that enclosure and puting it into another one or hooking directly to motherboard. See if the HDD works. If it does - u doged a bullet , backup the data and have a wonderfull life. If not - well, give us simptoms. Gl m8.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.
I've took out the hard drive from it enclosure.
The pcb does not have an IDE or sata connection.
The only connection that I can see is the mini usb port which is built in the pcb.
I've tried diffrent mini usb cables and it gives the same symptom for all the them.

Any suggestions?

To say it clearly : the drive is failing, the drive has direct USB connection and most probably it is failing due to HW or firmware. Need confirmation because I think there is a slight chance about one thing... but if it fails, it is a difficult drive even for seasoned pros. Time to get serious DR service in your area.

@crazydoctor,

It's simply not a thing you can do. Unless you want to spend thousands of $ in tools...

P.S. "connection" I meant that the micro USB connector and/or PCB at it is damaged.

if the data is important, take it to a pro. It is not about tools, first of all u need proper diagnostics. To do so U need first of all knowledge and experience, then some tools are handy indeed. But the first 2 cannot be bought on the market, the third has no value without the first 2, and probably more dangerous than having neither of them.
I hope you get the point.

Hi pepe, thanks for the advice to take it to a pro but in Israel the costs are very high for this, beyond the value of the data.
I have some experience with data recovry since I am a computer technician myself.

I don't have the expensive tools but I have some that I built myself.
What knowledge do I have to know beyond this of how hard disks are inside and outside.
I have a lot of data recovery softwares and a staion which I built and use for diagnostics and other stuff.
It's true that I am not a pro like almost all the members in this forum but I have a knowledge.

So, what should I do in order to fix that #$@ hard drive? :?

Many Thanks!

Now it seems I lack some of the basic geographical knowledge, could somebody tell me, Israel is in America, or America is in Israel, please?

About the case: since there is some not negligible risk of screwing the drive remotely beyond recovery I would not give advices, mainly not because my lack of knowledge, but because I cannot diagnose the drive precisely.
we should at least hear the sound of the drive.

pepe

You should buy some specific diagnostic equipment and get trained.

Easy to say.
Is there any cheap way that I can do it my self?
I take all the responsbility for my actions.
But I need any direction for this, besides "but some equipment and get trained, it's an answer.

Thanks,

Sorry to be so blunt, but your options are:

a) spend a few thousand dollars and a few years in training, then you can repair it yourself.
b) send it to a pro
c) trash the drive

"Cheap" as 10'000 (TEN THOUSAND) dollars equipment AND training.

If you are rich, it's cheap. Everything is relative.

I think it's better to ask the nearest reputable DR company near you, it will cost less than repairing a boiler in the house.
