Hello everyone!

I have the noted drive. For some reason it shows up as a 16GB drive instead of a 200GB.

I was wanting to know if there was firmware available for me to re-flash the drive to see if I could get it working again properly.

Sadly this drive's warranty ran out last month.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, drives can not be reflashed like cellphones.

If you don't need your data, just get a new drive and move on with your life.

Actually the drive isn't mine. The user sent it to GeekSquad and for some reason they were able to get a 16GB partition out of the 200GB available... but that is ALL the space it sees. I was able to get her pictures off like she wanted, however I think it wasn't all of them. Not sure how much she had.

And since the drive works, minus the space issue, I was thinking that a firmware re-write would take care of it without having to junk it.

Hard drives don't work like that.

You don't have to backup all of your files, just the ones you want to keep.

This drive probably has bad head, bad SA or media damage.
ROM could be a problem, but chances of it is less than 5%.

First step is to diagnose exact problem and then resolve it.
You will need special equipment to do diagnostics.

no easy as you think. and re-write firmware will lose all data. also you don't have pro tools for this process.

I'm not a DR guy, but I have seen one instance where a drive reported a reduced capacity (6GB) after a board swap. I don't know whether it is possible to retrieve any data in such a case, but you may like to confirm that the date codes on your chips (YWW, YYWW, Year/Week) match the date on the label.

The other thing to do is to see how Windows' Disk Management reports the capacity. Is there any unallocated space? Is the primary partition reported as 16GB or something larger?
