I have a Nikimi refurbished drive - when first attached to udma ran utility start the drive ID as
Nikimi
Serial number AEP1002359
FW 15-05R15
LBA 186.31GB

Received an error Mod 42 and Translator overlays are not found in module table.

I tried to back up the drive and received a lot of errors during back up on this drive

I have tried to clone this drive in DE and the 0 sector finally read and was good after received a lot of retired and all yellow and red sectors - started to clone backwards this drive. Cloned good at first then started to give a lot of yellow and red sectors on it.

I went back to utility to check heads to see if there was a bad head on this

Now when I start utility the drive is IDing different now I have the drive to show up as

WDC WD2500
SN ARP1002359
FW 15.05R15
LBA is now 250GB instead of the 200GB

First drive read in utility as 5 heads and now is reading as 6 heads. This is a completely refurbished drive here on this one.

I am sure one of the heads has been removed during the refurbishment on this one and the rom has been changed to read for 5 heads now instead of 6.

It appears that during refurbishing this disk the primary sa has been modified but not the secondary sa. Now this disk is no longer reading from the primary sa but the secondary sa.

Has anyone had or seen a problems like this on this model of a refurbish disk before. Is there anything I can do on this to get it to read again from the primary sa and try and get the data off this disk?

The name on the new label of this disk now is Nikimi

Thanks for any idea or suggestions on this one
