Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS-00B3A0

Hi guys!!!!!!, I've not had a good night..... :(.... my hard drive (of course) contains lots of valuable data I can not replace, and the board appears to have fried within a few seconds of turning it on... I should have known this was going to happen since I've been considering getting a new big backup drive for it all.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS-00B3A0

DCM: HGNNNV2AG
R/N: 701537
LBA: 625142448
320GB
WWN: 50014EE0AB23DBD8
Product Of Malaysia

Plugged drive in via external 3.5" cheap caddy, came up not initialized and smelt burning
the PCB appears to have had a spike and I could see light burn damage to some chip contacts on the underside of the board.

Removed the PCB and I could see the damage :(
R67 & D3 both visibly damaged - inline with the sata power plug.
U1 "Smooth L7257 2.2" is all I can really read from this chip below this text it has popped :(

The PCB Details are below;

2061-701537-K00 01P XW 5N05 R7NE 5 0002310 8312 (Barcode sticker)

2060-701537-002 REV P1 (screen printed on the PCB itself)

I get the impression due to the boards being custom set to the drive my chance of changing the PCB for another are extremely slim... so I guess my only choice is a data recovery company.. any recommendations in the UK?... budget is a big issue, either way I will not be able to do it presently, but hopefully in the future if the price is not too drastic..

Thanks for any advice!!!

post a picture if u can. Ur situation can be a quick 5 minute fix ( remove/replace diodes and ur in business ) or a long and expensive one ( smooth got burned , preamp on the head stack died , need a head transplant ).

there is some minimal part damage I could prob get replacements for but just as you mentioned about the Smooth chip being burnt being bad news that's exactly the case... it's melted itself below the smooth text...

if smooth is burned there is a chance preamp is dead as well. However i see a lot of the burned smooth chips and in the entire last year none had dead preamp. Basicaly u need a compatible donor pcb. Transport the adaptives from ur dead one to it and u are back in the game ( again, that is if the preamplifier inside is ok )
