PLEASE HELP! DESPERATE! Hard drive Question.

April 14th, 2010, 17:44

Hi, I had a western digital scorpio (originally internal but I have put an external case on it to make it external) It is 60GB. I bought it from a seller on ebay that specializes in HDD about 3 years ago. After using it for about 6 months the red light came on however the hard drive just could not be accessed. I couldnt access my files. Could someone tell me why this happened please?

I went back to the seller and he had told me that its possible to retrieve the data however its going to be very hard as I would need the exact same hard drive (which he doesnt have) containing the exact same DCM and manufactueres date. Im not sure whether this is true or not could someone confirm whether this is correct?

He also told me Im going to have to find the exact hard drive so he can replace the new head with the faulty drives head. Not sure what on earth he is on about. But can you break it down to me please?

Is there anyway I can actually get my data back? the hard drive still turns on but i cant get it to access my files. I have looked on ebay lately but cant seem to find anything. I am losing hope and too be honest dont know much about computers and all that.

Information about the hard drive is here.
-Western Digital Scorpio 60GB
-WD600VE-07HDT0
-DCM: HCNTJBFB
Manufactuers date: April 2006

Thanks very much in advance.

Hard drives are mechanical devices that can fail internally.

If you data is important I would veer away from your Ebay friends, and towards professional data recovery technician.

PCimage is probably near you.
