I have Samsung HDD, when I boot up my PC it detects my harddrive but it shows S.M.A.R.T. function failed. I tried connecting my harddrive to another pc to take copy of data it shows various partitions but while accessing those drives it says the drive is not formatted, do you want to formaat now?

What should I do to retrieve my data back?

Most likely you have bad sectors in your drive or some serious damage and your drive needs an intervention by a professional to retrieve your data.

Seek for a pro in your country.

You can confirm a problem with bad sectors by running a SMART diagnostic.

Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):

HDDScan for Windows:

See this article for SMART info:

I didn't mean to suggest that the OP should run the long DST. I was merely asking for a comprehensive SMART report. That shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

More tests on failing drive = weak heads that die completely OR some skiplist get full and then GAME OVER.
