Barracuda 7200.11 - not busy problem

Received in a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive which I thought was the standard busy problem. Customer had even sent it out to i365 who told him it was a common firmware problem, but wanted $700 to fix it. Anyway, after running through the steps in terminal, the drive is still reporting back as busy. The return code from the drive is LED: 000000CC FAddr: 0024A051. I have seen seen several posts here regarding this return code, but not a final answer. Any thoughts?

Drive is ST3750630AS and firmware is SD46.

Thinking it was the standard 7200.11 busy problem, I followed the standard procedure. When I reconnected the PCB and issued the N1 command, the drive came back with a busy code.

We all start somewhere. I also don't jeopardize the clients data if I don't know the consequences of my actions. Thanks for the tip.

You did power down the drive after N1, correct? If this procedure didn't work then the process involves shorting various test points on the PCB. However, please don't expect to find the details on that here.

Update - I followed several suggestions regarding how to fix this drive, but none have worked thus far. One thing I did notice was that the firmware version on the PCB says SD46, but Data Doctor is reporting SD15 when just the PCB is attached. I also found out that the drive had been to another computer repair shop before it came to me.

Question - What might account for the firmware inconsistencies? Is the inconsistency a possible reason for the drive not to respond to the 'busy' problem fix?

Check the various date codes to confirm that the PCB is original.

The various ICs on the PCB will have date codes of the form YWW or YYWW (Y=year, W=week). If you can't understand the numbers, then upload a photo.

Firmware is not only in pcb...

Check if serial on the label correspond to the serial given by the pcb.
Could be a non original pcb on it.

To me a non-native PCB should give other symptom / terminal log. But nowadays everything can be.... even that firmware on platters is somehow corrupted now. Better to restart and diagnose PCB, fw on platters and the HW one by one then judge.
