Hitachi external usb hard drive

I'm a newbie.Recently I bought a 1TB external hard drive and backed up all my data and everythig worked fine.
after a power outage, my windows 7 no longer can read the files on the external drive even though it recognises it.

Searhced a lot on the net, the testdisk seem to do the recovery of files. but its painfully slow, after 2 full days it has managed only 15GB and I've about 100GB of data..

Is there any other way of getting these files back quicker.?

Any help on this will be highly appreciated..i've lots of precious ddata on this drive

Sounds to me like the hard drive has a problem. Does testdisk give you any errors or warnings? Is the data that has been retrieved so far free from corruption?
